A Landing’s Eagle  The Real Thing -   January 2003

Angelina’s  Eagle

Landin Christine Zalewski of Peregrine Point Way reports taking this amazing picture in late November 2002, within a block of Landings Boulevard .

She says he still flies by and occasionally settles in the high pines in the area of Landings Blvd. and Landings Lane.

Perhaps he could be persuaded to cross the street into the Eagle Preserve.

Angelina’s Eagle

by Christine Zalewski

My husband and 3-year-old daughter, Angelina, were sitting at the kitchen table where he showed her a postcard featuring an eagle.

She responded “Like that one in the tree, Daddy?”

“No, honey,” he said. “eagles are very rare. That might be a bird in the tree, but it wouldn‘t be an eagle.”

With the typical assuredness of a 3-year-old, she said quite matter-of-factly “No, it’s an eagle.”

It was late in the day and the bird rather distant, so neither my husband nor I could see it clearly, but when I looked through a telephoto lens it was unmistakable.

We’d never seen one before and we still don‘t know how Angelina could have spotted it with an unaided eye!

It’s returned since that time, and I was able to take this photograph.
